Phoenix Filter

Improving the health of wildland firefighters.

The Problem: Smoke inhalation as part of wildland firefighting increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and lung cancers by up to 39% over a 20 year career. Although products exist to mitigate inhalation in the field, no products exist to improve air quality within the tents at basecamp.

The Solution: The Phoenix Filter provides in-tent filtered air to wildland firefighters and front line workers so that they can sleep better, maintain work performance, and stay healthy long-term. Designed to last, pack easily, and fit with the rest of the firefighter’s heavy pack.

Technologies: Rhino, Adobe Suite, 3D printed prototype, equipment provided by Catoma
